Remember Rockford Families Reunion
The 5th Annual Remember Rockford Families Reunion returns Saturday, September 6, 2014 and Sunday, September 7, 2014. The event is open to the public.
Saturday’s events will begin at 10:00 am at the Rockford Cemetery with a drama entitled, “Written in Stone”. The NoneSuch Playmakers Theatre group led by Brack and Angela Llewellyn will portray early Rockford residents and community leaders. Characters will include Mark and Nancy York, Charles B and Mollie Davis, William Yancey and Paulina Davenport, John and Delania Burrus, William and Letitia Norman, and William Polk and Mary Dobson. As we stroll through the historic village, actors will give attendees a glimpse into life in the 1800’s.
“This is a great opportunity for our drama team to study the lives of some of Surry County’s earliest inhabitants and to learn more about Rockford’s interesting history. We are very excited about this event”, said Brack Llewellyn of the NoneSuch Playmakers Theatre.
The reunion activities will continue with a BBQ lunch, bluegrass music by Eric and Ben Marshall, tours of the historic buildings, and sharing of family and local history. BBQ lunch is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.
On Sunday, a worship service celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Rockford Methodist Church will begin at 11:00 am followed by a covered dish meal on the church grounds. Bring a favorite dish and join this wonderful southern tradition.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and their family histories. Come have a great time in Rockford!
